A strong majority of Americans don't want Canada joining the United States either
When Donald Trump first made a joke about Canada becoming the 51st state, it raised a lot of eyebrows. Fast-forward to today, and that joke has quickly become less funny and more like an overt threat to Canadian sovereignty.
Couple the 51st state remarks with economic warfare in the form of tariffs, alongside the questioning of old treaties between the two nations that solidified the borders to what they are today, and Canadians are not enthused in the slightest.
